SANDOWN CASTLE -- TO -- DUNGENESS

Sandown Castle situated between Sandwich and Deal deeper water than Sandwich Bay a good spring and summer venue for the Bass and Dogfish, winter fishing for Cod can be very good.

Deal pier what can I say, easy to fish but a bit of a tackle grave yard, plenty of small fish with the odd better fish mixed in, Mackerel show in the summer and Cod and Whiting in the winter months.

Walmer Castle this is one of my favorite venues for winter fishing Cod and Whiting are often caught, Dogfish and Smoothounds in autumn give good sport.

Kingsdown Butts la relic from the D Day Landings (WWII) a good winter spot for Cod but you will be pestered with Dogfish and whiting. The ground is rough and in some places you can lose a lot of tackle. Be persistant it's worth it.

Dover Breakwater: you need to get a boat out to the breakwater from the Dumphead Pontoon near the marina, the boat leaves at 8am and returns at 3:30pm it's open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday howver, there is a age limit of 18 or over 16 if accompanied by an adult.
Dover Prince of Wales Pier: good for children and disabled anglers are able to take their cars up the pier with prior arrangement from the Marina Office
Dover Admiralty Pier: good venue but the tide can be troublesome, it gets very busy in the summer with people after the Mackerel. Most species can be caught from the Admiralty and the Breakwater, For more information ring Dover Sea Angling Association on 01304 204722

Shakespeare Beach to the right of the Admiralty is not quite as good as fishing on the pier but this is a good venue good for Bass, Cod, Mackerel, Dogfish, Smoothounds, Plaice and Dabs. Deep water makes it fishable at all states of the tide.

Samphire Hoo just outside Dover on the Folkstone road A20. Float fishing is the way forward here, Bass Wrase, Pollack and of course Mackerel can be caught this way. If you do try bottom fishing you will find you get stuck almost every cast, use a rotten bottom then you may have a chance of getting your fish in. Mackerel in the summer June till September, as many here as at the Admiralty Pier.

The Warren at Folkstone is a bit of a hike but you can park in Wear Bay Road then walk back towards Dover past the golf course and on past the Caravan Club then onto the prom. The Warren is well known to the locals for Bass fishing on plugs and lures, the ground is somewhat rocky so before bottom fishing I would suggest you have a walk along at low tide to find a clear patch.

Folkstone Pier tickets are avalible at the tackle shop in Tontine Street, you must have a ticket before you fish this venue. To the locals this is Dab central.

Sandgate Castle this venue has been known to put some good Cod on the beach. Sandgate is situated between Folkstone and Hythe. The parking in the area is a bit tight but it's worth finding a space.

Princes Parade Hythe fishes all year round. Start the year with Dabs and Flounders then move on through the year. Eels, Bass Pout and a few Plaice show in about May then on to October when the Cod start to show along with the Whiting shoals. November sees the Whiting thin out and just leave the Cod .

Fishermans Beach Hythe at the west end of West Parade similar fishing here as to Princes Parade but may be better in the winter for Cod.

Dungeness, what can I say! The most popular venue in Kent also the most crowded, catch one Cod at Dungeness and the whole population of Kent and Sussex turn up on the next tide, so if you hear there has been one caught (get the beach buddy out pack food and beer for a month and try to get yourself a gap on the beach). Oh! By the way, it's the same in the summer when the Mackerel show.
